One of the joys of shopping at the farmers market is discovering something new each week, and few vendors embrace that spirit quite like AZ Ranch.
Known for their diverse selection of specialty produce, herbs, flowers, eggs, and pasture-raised poultry, AZ Ranch continues to surprise shoppers with unique varieties that bring fresh inspiration to the kitchen.
This season, one standout is Delfino Cilantro, sometimes called “confetti cilantro.” Originally developed through the innovative breeding work of Chef Dan Barber and the team at Row 7 Seeds, this special variety offers a flavor profile unlike traditional cilantro. With delicate, feathery leaves that resemble dill and bright citrus notes reminiscent of lemon, it’s quickly becoming a favorite among home cooks and chefs alike. Try it sprinkled over grilled fish, roasted chicken, tacos, or fresh summer salads.
For herb lovers, AZ Ranch is also preparing to bring several varieties of mint to market, including Pineapple Mint which is already on their tables at the market!. Sweeter than traditional mint and easily recognized by its beautiful white-variegated leaves, Pineapple Mint makes a refreshing addition to teas, infused water, fruit salads, and summer cocktails. The ranch currently grows multiple mint varieties, giving shoppers plenty of opportunities to experiment with new flavors.
Another specialty item to watch for is Bronze Cutting Fennel, a striking herb prized for its beautiful bronze foliage and delicate anise flavor. While currently between harvests, the ranch expects it to return to market soon. The feathery tops can be used in salads, seafood dishes, and as a flavorful garnish.
Beyond herbs, AZ Ranch’s market stand is bursting with seasonal treasures including sweet golden beets, vibrant edible flowers, oregano blossoms, and calendulas that add both beauty and flavor to summer meals.
The ranch also offers both chicken and duck eggs, produced with a thoughtful approach to animal care. Their chickens, ducks, turkeys, and geese enjoy a diet supplemented with an impressive 250 pounds of fresh microgreens each day, with no corn or organic soy included in their feed program.
It’s this combination of innovation, quality, and attention to detail that makes AZ Ranch such a beloved part of the Calabasas Farmers Market community.
The next time you’re strolling through the market, stop by their booth and ask what’s new. Chances are you’ll leave with an ingredient you’ve never tried before and a little inspiration for your next meal!
