From the Alps to Westlake: La Montagne Des Saveurs Brings the Art of French Fromage to Our Market
If you follow the aroma of nutty Gruyère and buttery Brie drifting through Westlake Village Farmers Market on a Sunday morning, you’ll arrive at a booth piled high with wheels and wedges that look straight out of a Provençal postcard. That’s La Montagne Des Saveurs—the passion project of Joy and Damien Campomar, a husband‑and‑wife duo who turned their own quest for better sleep (yes, they met Buzju next door!) into a full‑blown love affair with artisan cheese.
A Slice of France in Southern California
Joy and Damien began their journey in Avignon, France, where weekly markets brim with farmhouse cheeses. Fascinated, they apprenticed under local affineurs, mastering the delicate craft of cave‑aging and learning how fresh mountain milk transforms from young and mild to bold and crystal‑speckled. Today they’re certified Maîtres Affineurs and still age their cheeses in their own French cellars before flying the wheels stateside.
Why Their Cheeses Stand Out
Mountain Milk Magic – Sourced from small herds grazing Alpine pastures, the milk lends each wheel a sweet, floral character you simply can’t fake.
Cave Aging – Natural humidity and stone walls encourage complex rinds and flavors—from grassy Tomme de Savoie to caramel‑rich 24‑month Comté.
Farm‑to‑Tablepedigree – Every wheel is handled by the Campomars from curd to market table, so quality never leaves their hands (or gloves!).
Meet Them at the Booth
Damien’s eyes light up when he talks cheese—ask about “the one with crunchy crystals,” and you’ll get a mini masterclass in amino‑acid tyrosine. Joy pairs samples with market‑fresh figs or a drizzle of local wildflower honey, proving that fine cheese isn’t fussy; it’s an invitation to gather and savor.
“From young to aged, mild to bold, sweet to salty—we have the selection. Just let yourself be inspired.”
